Who We Are

Midwest Doula Fund’s mission is to remove financial and logistical barriers to full spectrum doula services. Our vision is that pregnant, birthing, and parenting people can access the comprehensive support that a doula provides regardless of financial means, childcare needs, or travel costs.

We believe that access to doula services during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum can improve healthcare outcomes and help individuals navigate these transformative and vulnerable periods with confidence, knowledge, and support.

What We Do / How We Work

Midwest Doula Fund partners with community partners such as doulas, healthcare providers, social workers, and individuals to increase awareness of the available doula support and provide financial assistance for doula care. Unique to the Midwest Doula Fund, logistical support for doula care, such as potential childcare, lodging, or travel costs, is also available.

Why Do Doulas Matter?

Doulas help empower individual choice during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. They provide continuous support and often use non-medical approaches, focusing on emotional and physical comfort, education, and improved communication with the medical team or personal support system. Evidence shows that doulas are valued members of the care team who help improve health outcomes.

Doulas also provide critical support for people regardless of pregnancy outcome.

What Is A Doula?

Doulas are individuals who receive special training and certification to provide continuous individualized care, physical support, and emotional support during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum periods. Doulas offer education and support to individuals and their care teams, preparing them for the next steps in pregnancy and parenting.
